AI Is Changing the Homebuying Process - But It Can’t Replace the Human Touch

Artificial intelligence has quickly become part of our everyday lives. From researching products and planning vacations to creating budgets and comparing financial options, AI can make complicated tasks faster, easier, and more accessible.

The mortgage and real estate industries are no exception.

A recent LendingTree survey found that 72% of consumers would consider using AI for at least one part of the homebuying or selling process. Even more interesting, 37%

said they would be willing to let AI manage the entire homebuying experience with minimal human involvement.

At Maxwell Home Mortgage, we believe AI has tremendous potential in the mortgage industry. In fact, technology can be an incredibly useful tool throughout a transaction.

But there is an important distinction:

AI should enhance the mortgage experience—not replace the people guiding it.

There Are Some Things AI Does Very Well

Buying a home involves an enormous amount of information. AI and other technology can help consumers research neighborhoods, estimate payments, understand mortgage terminology, compare general loan types, explore down payment assistance programs, organize documentation and better prepare questions for their mortgage professional.

Technology can also help mortgage professionals work more efficiently behind the scenes, allowing us to spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time focusing on our clients.

That is progress we welcome.

But a mortgage isn't simply a collection of numbers entered into a computer.

Your Financial Story Doesn't Always Fit Into an Algorithm

Every borrower is different.

A first-time homebuyer may need help understanding how much cash they should keep in reserves after closing. A Veteran may have several VA financing options to consider. A self-employed borrower may have income that requires additional analysis. Another buyer may need to decide whether paying points, negotiating seller concessions or choosing a different loan structure makes the most financial sense.

Then there are the unexpected situations that happen during an actual transaction.

An appraisal comes in with questions. An insurance quote changes. Underwriting requests additional documentation. A closing date moves. A property presents an issue that affects financing.

Those are the moments when experience matters.

AI can provide information.

A mortgage professional provides judgment, context, strategy and accountability.

Buying a Home Is Personal

For most people, purchasing a home is one of the largest financial decisions they will ever make.

There are real people behind every transaction: buyers, sellers, Realtors, appraisers, title professionals, insurance agents and underwriters. Successfully getting from an accepted offer to the closing table often requires communication and coordination among all of them.

And sometimes a borrower doesn't need another automated notification.

They need someone who knows their loan to answer the phone and say:

“Here is what is happening. Here are our options. And here is what I recommend we do next.”

Technology cannot replace that relationship.

Technology + Experience: The Best of Both Worlds

At Maxwell Home Mortgage, we don't believe consumers should have to choose between modern technology and personal service.

We use technology and AI where they make sense—to improve efficiency, organize information, research options and help make the mortgage process smoother.

But your mortgage is never handed over to technology and forgotten.

You have a real mortgage professional involved in your transaction who understands your goals, your loan and the people involved in getting you to the closing table.

That human involvement becomes even more important when something doesn't go exactly according to plan.

The Future of Mortgage Isn't AI or People

It's AI + people.

AI will continue to make the mortgage industry faster and more efficient. It will give consumers better access to information and give mortgage professionals better tools to serve their clients.

That's a good thing.

But when you're deciding how much home you can comfortably afford, choosing between financing options, structuring an offer or navigating an unexpected problem days before closing, you deserve more than an algorithm.

You deserve experience. You deserve communication. And you deserve someone personally invested in getting you home.

That's the difference at Maxwell Home Mortgage.

Modern tools. Personal guidance. A real person when it matters most.
